HNN, Best group blog: "Witty and insightful, the Edge of the American West puts the group in group blog, with frequent contributions from an irreverent band.... Always entertaining, often enlightening, the blog features snazzy visuals—graphs, photos, videos—and zippy writing...."
You’re assuming that because Howard Cossell was Jewish then I must have known him and was able to convince him to post from beyond the grave? You, sir, are an antisemite.
I recall watching the game and Howard’s lead-in, but not Gifford’s. (The New England kicker missed the last second field goal and it went to OT and Miami won.) Here is a nice item from the WaPo on the background to the announcement, in particular the 2nd video which has the feed of Cosell and Gifford discussing whether to announce it or not–Cosell said no, Gifford yes.
You know, I don’t think I’d ever heard Howard Cosell before, but I’m delighted to discover he sounds pretty much like the imitations I’d heard before and still dimly remember.
ben, did you read JP’s comment up there at 7:57 pm?
Not until after I posted my own comment, sad to say, and after I did read JP’s comment I figured I’d leave the pleasure of pointing out my foolishness to someone else.
It’s weird that Cosell says that the assailant shot Lennon “in the back.” We don’t say that any more. We don’t imagine it happening that way any more. (I think?)
It’s like this happened in another generation…but that’s impossible, because it would make me old.

Possibly, but at least I don’t misrepresent important facts about my online activities or lack thereof.

Wow. Double bummer. 1.) That John’s gone. 2.) That I remember when it happened. Thanks.

Regardless, as you pointed out at the time, I may not have a blog, but a blog has me. There’s no sense fighting it.
