Good list. Lofty list.

Wow, will that advice depress people who managed to go through school without getting into a relationship.
What? I can’t be the only loser out there.

I called everyone who ever went to a SLAC, Erik, and I’ve got some bad news.

I bet there are a fair number of people at SLAC who had no relationships in school.

First-time caller, Neddy, but proud to de-lurk for this. I seem to have a dilemma:
On the one hand: If I steer my freshmen to this, (1) the dean will think I’m up to something untoward (which I can live with but have to pick my battles) and (2) as you say, the people who need it won’t pay attention.
On the other hand: If my students can’t find this on their own, they may not be Web-savvy enough pass my class.

@ari: Thank you. (I think.)
@ben: I didn’t know I could comment here, since a comment of mine on an earlier piece took so long to go through, but that was the exact joke I wanted to make. I laughed, so thank you. Also, I have/had a couple of friends go work at SLAC, and they all need an iPhone app like, “Go talk to something that is alive and has a mouth.”
@ProfGeo
Serious answer, if this was a serious question:
Put “MrDestructo” on one side of the blackboard and “‘liberal arts'” on the other, then jerk your hand shoulderward a few times while emphasizing that people should connect the dots about how to get by in college, or maybe hope that someone spelled it out for them. Make no effort to connect ideas. Deny if asked. Erase immediately. Then have a satisfying sandwich at a place known for light cuisine. Then get on the interstate in heavy traffic conditions. Slam on the brakes as soon as someone tailgates you. That’s soft-tissue damage. You can retire today!
