John McCain, throwing caution to the wind with a gambler’s recklessness, made Sarah Palin a national name by choosing her as his Vice-Presidential candidate. Now, she’s making him:
Senator John McCain and Sarah Palin embraced on stage here on Friday as they made their first joint campaign appearance since their presidential race, with Ms. Palin assuring Republicans in Arizona that Mr. McCain should not be dispatched from office by a conservative challenger.
Their rally drew “one of the largest crowds” McCain has had since the 2008 presidential run; a crowd McCain is apparently unable to draw by himself.

not only can he not draw such a crowd, he can’t keep it. according to a local report, about 1/3 of the crowd left after she spoke.

Aw, poor Senator Maverick. Identity politics can be such a tricky business.
At least he’ll keep his Congressional health.

Well, if he loses, he’ll finally have the free time to be interviewed on the TV morning shows every goddamn day as the Founders intended.

There are moments that transcend politics and ascend into the realm of myth and literature – certainly this one, with Sarah Palin playing the role of Becky Sharp in Vanity Fair, is one of them. How dare his handlers question her clothing choices and her use of the GOP’s credit card! It was petty petty cash for them.
So, dressed in that bomber jacket (somebody, and I guess it is Sarah P. must have laughed at the irony that she wears the bomber jacket in that odd couple), I imagine that was one of the high points in her life. It is a simple life: get revenge on everybody who ever put her down.
My very favorite part was this:
“When you talk about that Tea Party movement, some would claim John was there at that first Tea Party movement. (Crowd laughs. John McCain laughs.) And I’m kidding.”
Kidding like Don Rickles. Although, like Becky Sharp, Sarah’s whole career since 2008 has been based on destroying the vanity of the old men that run the GOP. That McCain will abase himself to serve another pointless term as senator is a monument to the vanity and emptiness of the man. He really can’t think of anything else to do, as he nears his mortality.
I hope his first wife is smiling.

As Borowitz reported, she is trying to shore up his support among morons.

It dawns on me that her bomber jacket would probably go over well at the bondage venue that Steele (or was it?) visited.
Also, too, when will those two crazy kids get it on?

How big was the crowd, at any point? I can’t find pictures of the event that might show the crowd — anybody got some? Can we see for ourselves?
