Cast off the chains of humorlessness by looking at postbourgie’s series for Black History Month, “Know Your History.” I’m still partial to the post on Franklin:
Franklin N’desi Babatunde, known to the entertainment world simply as Franklin, was a member of the first black family to settle in Springslight, Michigan, the famous home of the Peanuts gang. Franklin’s integration of the school divided the Peanuts gang, pitting Lucy against Charlie Brown, Schroeder against Lucy, and Linus against Sally. After a torrid affair with Peppermint Patty, Franklin moved to New York, where he joined the Nation of Gods and Earths under the name ‘Divine God Father Equality.’
Know Your History.
But your mileage may vary. Regardless, don’t let the man keep you down.

So it’s a basic rule of life that whatever side Lucy van Pelt is on, one ought to plan to be on the other side. But what if Lucy is siding with Franklin here, and Charlie Brown is revealing hitherto unglimpsed racist (or state’s rightsist?!) tendencies? You don’t really have any choice but to swallow your pride and go with Lucy, do you?

Is this like an “Ask the Historian” column? Because if so, I’m going to agree with you, though I’d add that the idea of Charlie Brown taking the side of the slaveocracy is somewhat dubious.

What’s with all the Peanuts stuff? Isn’t this blog supposed to be about the Muppets?

I felt like Charles Schultz lost his freaking mind toward the end there. Like–he was wry the whole time, but all of a sudden his last panels weren’t jokes at all, like we were supposed to rely on the last six hundred years of Peanuts to signal that the last panel was funny, but the last panel wasn’t funny a lot of the time.
And I thought that made Peanuts funnier.
