The Cordoba House site is “at” Ground Zero in the sense that it is within two blocks or so of Ground Zero. I am therefore licensed to tell you that when I lived in New York, I lived at 145 Central Park West. Damn, Bono was an annoying neighbor.

One thing that’s gone unmentioned in this controversy: An actual Ground Zero Mosque would be a pretty good idea.

Evidently the people who get exercised about the placement of Cordoba House (as was) are the kind who never had occasion to learn that in dense cities, two blocks is a long way. Even in San Francisco, it makes a big difference if your house on, say, 10th Avenue is by Lake Street or Clement….

That’s right! When I lived in San Francisco, I lived in St. Francis Wood, too!

Well, “Islamic Community Center To Be Built In Lower Manhattan” isn’t going to stir up the rubes. So the politicians and demagogues lie…

Ironically, when I visited Cordoba, I stayed in the Cordoba Mosque. Lots of room, lousy breakfast.

Wait. Bono had a legal fight with Billy Squier over a fireplace. Does this mean Eric is really Billy Squier? A victim of his gifts as a silk-sheet-sleeping, finger-snapping talents, indeed.

gaaah that sentence sure spun out of control. I was distracted by deliberations about whether “prancing” would be offensive in this context.

For some reason, all morning I had Billy Squier confused with Eddie Money.

Billy Squier’s got his hands in his pockets …

I’m sure I will suffer for this, but when I heard “Cordoba House,” the first thing I thought of was that it would be furnished in rich Corinthian leather…
Thinking further, I got a mental picture of some sort of empanadas/tapas/IHOP restaurant.
However:
Gettysburg is hallowed ground.
Lexington is hallowed ground.
Arlington is hallowed ground.
An empty clothing store several blocks from the WTC site is not “hallowed ground.”
Shouldn’t Newt be divorcing a sick wife, or something?

TF, if you want to suffer, you’ll have to get in line: vide Bérubé and DougJ.

Real men drove the Charger…
Same car, but with a Dodge nameplate.
The ride was as mushy as all hell, but it got up and went.

What, the Landmark’s commission didn’t grant historic status to a former Burlington Coat Factory? Where are there priorities? What’s next, Century 21?
