it is a beautiful day! and that’s a great shot from south of “the maze.” it must have been taken early, because i’m pretty sure the bay to the north is now filled with sailing vessels.

wait, i’m not seeing teh constuction… maybe i’m not properly oriented. where is this shot from?

That’s the eastern span of the Bay Bridge, from the Embarcadero near the ferry building, right?

You were out in the west of the west and you didn’t call? I’m hurt.

ben gets it exactly right.

andrew’s right about the location, kathy a. is right about the time of day. As for you guys, to the best of my knowledge I have a phone number for neither of you.

Ok but you didn’t write either.

I was actually near that spot just a couple of days ago.

It’s the western span. The Embarcadero is the western edge of the bay. (Dudes.) The construction is off there beyond the island at the left.
And yes, today has been an extraordinarily beautiful day in the city. Clear, bright, and mild. Perfect for showing the folks around and meditating on the decline of the West.

It’s the western span.
Uh, yeah, that’s what I meant. (My other east, I guess.) I find it a bit disorienting to be on this side of the bay, after growing up on the other side.

I’m the last person who should be lecturing others about the east-west distinction, which I still often mix up in general. But this is an area with sub-regions generally called North Bay, South Bay and East Bay — it’s an anatomy we rehearse daily.

But there’s no West Bay!*
*Despite the efforts of the West Bay Rapid Transit Authority.

But it was taken from next to the Ferry Building.

It took me a while to see your point, eric: but yes, indeed you did not endorse andrew’s sense of the compass points.

Seriously, though, it’s really strange for me to walk east to the western span of the bridge. So strange that I just wrote “walk west to the eastern span” before editing it, but I guess not as strange as if the bridge were to extend west of San Francisco.

ferry building, that makes sense. duh. the east and west sections don’t even look alike; i just thought “ooooh, bay bridge!” and i don’t even have the excuse of no coffee for the wrong guess on orientation. (never drive the darned thing; i’m a BART person on those occasions i still go to The City.)

huh? bart goes to chicago?

smart ass. there’s only one “the city” in the west.

You made me forget myself. I thought I was someone else, someone good.
