Some more photos of Aarhus. From a café, of a street near the university, and two of the university.

What’s “in the middle of a street” — the candleboat running along the monorail in the middle of the street, in the first picture? Oh, maybe I’m misreading that, or missing an allusion.

Surely you’re about the right age for Madness, Vance.

Isn’t that “in the middle of our street”?

Well, yes. I took a liberty.

It doesn’t take much to confuse me.
The second photo (with the red house “in the middle of the street” in that English sense) is a nice scene. Does much of Aarhus look like that?

That area does, a bit — and yes, much of the old town does, though perhaps not so colorful.

I’m a huge Madness fan – nothing beats the nutty sound. But now when I see “The Middle of the Street” I’m thinking “Improper Dancing” by Electric Six.

Looks like people use cars a lot less there although it could just be a sleepy street.

I don’t know the exact numbers on car usage in Århus, but the bike usage at a 25% share is low compared to other largeish Danish cities, and then there is also a very well developed public transportation sector as well. So all in all I think we can safely assume a much lower car usage in Århus than in most comparable US cities.

Perhaps a better soundtrack would be a local 1980s classic: Århus-based “Gnags” playing “Slingre ned af Vestergade”

Boy, did Danish music videos look weird back then.
The university campus is generally seen as one of the most attractive campusses in the Nordic countries.

If only Rem Koolhaas lived there.
