at first i thought it was going to be thematic–we’re so toasted we think everybody only has one eye–but they didn’t play on it.
so was it an attempt to avoid copyright infringement? a hopelessly lame and manifestly futile attempt, given the names, the stripey shirts, etc.?

bert would be the guy with the riot-shield pounding on the door, yelling “polizei!!”
let’s face it, bert is not just a spoil-sport. his obsessions with rule-following, orderliness, and regularity are clearly authoritarian, if not fascist.

Slander. Bert is a straight-up decent guy whose irritation at Ernie’s irritating self-indulgence is entirely reasonable. Come the police state, Bert will be the one harboring refugees and sending information to the underground by passenger pigeon while Ernie plays the fool and offers feeble excuses.

There was a whole series of those Sesame Street parody short broadcast as part of a comedy show a few years ago. I still remember one where Ernie and Bert (or Bernie and ert) visit a sex club.
