The Edge of the American West is unafraid to express its admiration for William Shatner: actor, singer, pitchman, philosopher, poet, and Canadian Jew.

I had heard this, but never seen it. I wouldn’t have thought it could possibly be worse than it sounds, but it appears I was wrong.

How dare you defile the good name of Brother William?

Did anybody notice another post at the head of the page, a moment ago? Or was I befuddled by the fumes of whatever WS is smoking?

He made several records of this kind of thing, no? But the live performance is incredible.

There was another post, and there is again. But I wanted to give Captain Bill some breathing room.

Also: shat-tastic (but be careful: as Standpipe Bridgeplate noted, this song contains spoilers).

Can today be *great covers* day at Edge of the American West? If so, I nominate:

I was more than half-way through before realizing it wasn’t intended to be comedic.

Whoa. A little googling came up with this page:

Its hard to choose a favorite. Who wouldn’t like the Brady Kids singing “Love Me Do” or Bill Cosby trying “Sargeant Peppers” or, perhaps most repulsive: Telly Savalas singing “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.”
Can you tell its finals time?

There’s really no substitute for Shatner overacting in Esperanto. (Actually, Incubus is not nearly as bad a film as it ought to be. Conrad Hall’s cinematography helps tremendously!)

The Leningrad Cowboys are fantastic. A lot of videos on YouTube, “Sweet Home” is probably the funniest but there are some really nice performances there.
Anybody know Joe Pop-o-Pie? He was a New Jersey quasi-punk-rocker in the early eighties who recorded fantastic covers of “Truckin” and “Sugar Magnolia”, plus a pretty funny “I am the Walrus”. Also,
Repeated for a few minutes at high volume with drums and guitar. Rock and roll.

And if we’re talking covers, there’s really nothing that entirely compares with this.

That bass is not a kitchen appliance. Not in my kitchen, anyway. But then, I’m not a very accomplished cook.

Thanks for that. I say we start a Hurra T tribute band.

A Barry White vibe?
Alternatively there’s the DK’s “Holiday in Cambodia,” but maybe that’s too obvious.

Here’s The Royal Pains covering Joe Pop-o-Pie’s “Fascists Eat Donuts”, a song utterly without socially redeeming qualities.
